Our
range of Javan furniture is hand crafted in a village called Pundang
which is 40 miles south of Yogjakarta in Central Java. The family
run business is situated in a factory next to a river in an idyllic
location. We have been visiting Java for over 14 years and our
factory manager has grown with us from pedalling a Becak for a
living to employing 28 workers. All 28 are paid well above the
usual wage for this work and we guarantee no children under the
age of 16 years are employed.
Sassak
has sought to create a very natural and clean look to their new
range whilst maintaining their tradition hand made quality and
feel. The colour of this range is light, almost honey, and is
finished beautifully with layer upon layer of french polish producing
a nice satin effect. Particularly beautiful is the dining table
with drawers and our fantastic Borneo chair that accompanies it.
All the furniture uses sustainable Teak that is kiln dried by
our suppliers in their workshops in Central Java, Indonesia.
