Originally
started as a ‘man and van’ wholesale
set up in 1994 where Andy
and Rachel were simultaneously
putting together batik paintings
and changing nappies on their new-
born in their kitchen and then delivering
them in their ‘Postman Pat’ style
van (the paintings, not the nappies!)
to customers and contacts they had
made at local craft fairs and the
Torquay Show.
These
days of course it’s a different
matter. Andy and Rachel have taken Sassak from
a doorstep affair to the successful
business we know today.
Andy
and Rachel firmly believe
in dealing only with family
run businesses with similar
work ethics to those they institute
in their own business. Their strong
links ensure fair wages, no children
under the age of sixteen employed,
safe and clean work conditions
and more importantly a certain
percentage of profits to be put
back into the community. By doing
business this way they can ensure
the fair price they
pay for their products is channelled
to those who need it most
